I work for Capgemini as a Senior Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Consultant, specialising in the OpenText solutions portfolio, you can find out more about that in the Content Server section of this site. I have experience of a wide variety of Web based technolgies including both client side - such as Javascript, HTML and CSS - and server side - such as ASP, .Net, PHP and Perl - alongside related technolgies such as WebServers, Servers, Networking and Databases. I am also Technical Director of my own consultancy firm, Adservio Consulting, which specialises in Web and OpenText application development, management and support. Previously, I've worked for several firms including CGI (Logica), Causeway Technologies and Diversey (JohnsonDiversey / DiverseyLever) in a variety of roles managing and leading the design, development and implementation of business focussed technology solutions.
I am a graduate from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a BSc(Hons) degree in Computer Science. My dissertation was in Internet-Database Connectivity with a report on the different approaches and a Search Engine with an Admin client using Perl, HTML and Javascript. I use reimplementation of this project as a benchmark when exploring new languages and technologies or versions I already have exposure to.
Over the years I believe that I have acquired many skills from outside the academic world which are assets to my role, the main ones come from my experiences of Chess - as a player, a coach and a manager - have assisted with my thinking, problem solving and planning.
I have also been lucky enough to work with multilingual teams and work all over the world during my career thus far, something I've been doing since my time at University where I spent my Year Out in Brussels, Belgium, working for the European Foundation Centre. Having not only to work, but also to live in such a diverse and multicultural area where English is not the first language really helped me develop. This also significantly improved my ability to work with and understand people from different cultural backgrounds and improved my language and communication skills significantly.
